i’ll be smiling all day.

we’re freezing over her in oakland these past couple of days. and with an almost 3 year old toddler, we need to find alternatives to playing outside and FAST.
here are some ideas to keep your little one having fun, staying warm and exerting some energy:
1. indoor sand: take a large bucket and fill with rice (or flour, cornmeal, pasta, etc.) and put a few toys and a scooper. let your child spend away the hour feeling the different texture of the rice and finding their toys.
2. don’t let the balloon touch the ground!: get a balloon. play keep away from the floor. repeat.
3. step right up and win a…: a throwing game like at the carnival. take a garbage can, laundry basket or something else to throw a small ball in. take turns trying to throw the ball in the can and the first to dump three balls in the can wins a sticker.
4. hide and go seek: show your child all the fun places to hide in the house. let her be the seeker first. squeal in delight when she finds you.
5. disco kid: turn on your favorite music. dance, dance, dance. the sillier the moves (and music) the better.
6. walk the plank: turn your couch into a pirates ship. line the end of one side of the couch with many, many pillows and make your child walk the length of the couch (walk the plank) and jump off into the pillows.
what are your favorites?
